We chose a hotel that would be close to the train station for convenience. Immediatley questioned my usually impecible sense of quan of a city whilst crossing the street from the train station. Man, dodgy as!
Booked in the hotel, not too bad. Still slightly apprehensive, logged onto the free internet and checked out reviews of the hotel.
We read a reveiw that said our "street was full of prostitutes and scary people hanging around"
Our sense of adventure overtook our sense of self preservation, we boldly strode forth with a tourist map of the city and a castle as our destination.
Visions of what Mogidishu probably looks like flashed through my mind as we hurried across the piazza immediatly in front of the train station. As we made our way further into the city, I relaxed somewhat my view of the city. To be reasonable, it was probably more like Bagdad. It got better, I chose a relatively safe area of the city to get lost in. Though we had to get back through Mogadishu to get to our hotel.....at night.
Suprisingly, we found most the people we dealt with to be friendly and helpful. Well, mostly the scary prostitutes, the rest, I think still wanted to rob us.
We spent yesterday exploring the ruins on Pompeii and today Hercaleum. I was a full day and the ruins are even more spectacular than when I first saw them 20 years ago. Some of the mosiac floors and frescos condition are amazing. We ran out of daylight before we ran out of Pompeii, though we still had time for a bit of kick to kick in the stadium of which Kathy took some excellect video footage.......or would have if the camera had actually been filming at the time. Maybe she though the 6 minutes film of her feet against a backdrop of Vesuvian volcanic soil had more artistic merit.
I took some really top marks, honest.

Morgan was excited to be there
